The Light Which Lost
By Danish Mand Khan
Unforgotten yet blemished, times of yore, I distinctly evoke
Of the fluttering dust, aside the wagon wheel
And the sodden sparrow fatigued from life’s reel
The future and hope so well churned, the stars beyond so lucidly provoke
Oft and again provoked me the past
I muse much, but advance I will to the fore
To my left, the candle so patently burned, but something dissimilar I felt than before
Fervently I gazed at the flame.
Scarcely, I did feel this night would forever last
The flame unfluttering fixed in its purpose,
‘strange it doesn’t flicker, why don’t you. O mister?’
‘ha! ’tis only a flame, adept only in a swollen blister’
My mind played tricks, within me was an absolute ruckus
‘failed you have, fail you be. The past was sure the future will be’
The blaze it spake! O the heavens! killing the darkness it spake
Plainly I heard, amused I was, this talk I must partake
‘Speak to me, O lord of the blazing fire, fail will be my future, how did u see?’
‘failed you have and fail you be, the past was sure, the future will be’
Stunned was I again,to learn my past so right
Convinced was I the lord has knowledge bright
‘My lord, you spoke the past true,i pray my future be successful,if you pry’
‘Failed you are and fail you be,the past was sure, the future will be’
The merciless words dipped in venom pierced my heart again
‘To see me in a fiasco, what will you gain?’
My words collapsing, my saneness losing, I implored the lord who everything could see
‘Failed you are and fail you be, the past was sure, the future will be’
The lord still unmoved, my petitions he did not prove
His denial lit within me now, the fire with which I strove
‘O you apathetic spirit, speak you truth full well I know. But fail the future shall not be’
‘Failed you are and fail you be, the past was sure, the future will be’
I could hear no more, the lord had fed the child of fury much
Put away your being blessed am I such!
Enriched by the wrath, Achilles’ unappeasing anger
Put out the light of my unfluttering lord, the future he couldn’t see.
The past he spake was palpable indeed
Future’s path untrudged still
Ached the eruption upon my palm
But satisfied was I
Killing the lord’s sham.
